Role of the Board
When utilizing Contract Partnership, the roles and responsibilities of the Board, Executive Committee and all Volunteers remain the same. With Contract Partners as trusted advisors, Volunteers can spend more time on the enjoyable aspects of the organization — delivering programs to fulfill the mission of the organization and strategizing growth.
The Board of Directors is the governing body of the organization. It is responsible for the direction of the organization; it acts and thinks strategically, setting goals and strategies for the future. The three basic functions of the Board are to approve outcomes to be accomplished; to ensure the resources that are necessary for achievement are available and used efficiently; and to make sure the desired outcomes are being achieved. The Board should maintain focus on mission and vision.
Responsibilities of the Board
Mission: Define the mission and conduct annual and strategic planning to review purposes, programs, priorities, resource needs and targets of achievement.
Oversight and Support: Oversee and evaluate all programs, services and activities; support the staff; and be an advocate for the association.
Finances: Assure financial responsibility by approving the annual budget and overseeing adherence to it; contracting for an independent audit; and controlling the investment policies and management of capital or reserve funds.
Meetings: Convene regular meetings to conduct the business of the Association and convey actions to membership and other interested parties.
Management: Engage Contract Partners to perform the administrative, financial and business management functions of the organization. The goal is to minimize costs while allowing the organization to be most productive without overburdening volunteers — while keeping the Board in charge.
